The purposes of annealing are:
1. Reduce hardness and strength, improve the mechanical properties of the workpiece.
2. Eliminate or improve residual stress, stabilize dimensions, and prevent workpiece deformation and cracking.
3. Refine grains, adjust structure, and eliminate structural defects.
4. Uniform material structure and composition, improve material properties or prepare for final heat treatment.
Classification of annealing processes:
1. Full annealing.
2. Isothermal annealing.
3. Incomplete annealing.
4. Spheroidizing annealing.
5. Homogenizing annealing.
6. Stress relief annealing.
7. Recrystallization annealing.
